Walk: Christmas Blowaway. 17km or 12km / 10.5miles or 7.5miles (Moderate or Easy)
Walk off those extra kilos, blow away the cobwebs, and fill your lungs with bracing winter air. The Chairman’s ‘Christmas Blowaway’ is for those wanting a Sunday walk between Christmas and New Year.
The length of the walk will be weather dependent, to be decided a couple of days beforehand, once a weather forecast is available. Fine, dry, winter weather and we take the longer route. Depressingly wet and windy, and we’ll take the shorter one. Either way, we’ll begin from the Pont Cadwgan parking area in the Grywne Fawr valley in the Black Mountains. Map OL13, grid reference SO SO 267251 at 9:30am.
If good or reasonable weather:
17km/10.5 miles, 860m/2840ft ascent (Moderate)
Bal Mawr, Chwarel y Fan and Pan y Gadair Fawr circuit.
If poor, very wet/windy weather:
12km/7.5 miles, 530m/1740ft ascent (Easy)
Bal Mawr and Chwarel y Fan with a low-level return.
