DESCRIPTION:Our walk this coming Sunday takes us into the lovely countryside around Parc Cwm Darran. We will climb up to the ridges above both sides of the park\, pass through ancient woodland\, cross open moorland\, down country tracks through farmland and experience far reaching views.\n\nThere is the possibility of reducing the length of the walk at around the 5 mile mark and returning to the visitors centre and cafe along a flat track through the park (approximately 1.5 miles). The cafe there is a bonus and we can reward ourselves with tea and home made cake as long as we get back in time.\n\nGrid reference SO 11809 03347.\nPost Code CF81 9NT. SUMMARY:Evening walk: Cotterell Hill 4.5miles
DESCRIPTION:The route is circular and about 4.5 miles. It offers superb views in all directions and includes open ground\, woodland and a beautiful section of the Wye Valley near Symonds Yat.\nIt takes in Cotterill Hill\, which rises to 200 plus metres. From the O.S trig point we have a long descent to Welsh Bicknor Church  and a YH next to the Wye. We then ascend through woodland back along a lane to Goodrich for possible refreshments. \nWe start at “Ye Hostelerie” 16th C pub in the centre of Goodrich. SO 575 195.\nGoodrich is reached off the A40 just past Whitchurch by taking the B4229. Follow brown signs for Goodrich Castle. Roger has permission for us to use the car park (just before the pub on the right side of the lane). If the car park is full\, it is okay to use the school car park situated about 100 yards south of the pub. \nPlease let Roger know if you’re attending.\n\nFor your safety and the safety of other members\, we advise minimum personal equipment requirements for all our walks.

DESCRIPTION:From the starting point at Crickhowell car park\, our walk begins as we head towards the historic Crickhowell Castle. After exploring the castle grounds\, we proceed to Bullpit Meadow before following the serene River Usk upstream. The journey takes us as far as the picturesque Glanusk Estate. From there\, we follow the permissive footpath leading to West Lodge\, where we join the Brecon and Monmouth canal at bridge 121. \nContinuing along the canal towpath\, we make our way to bridge 119\, where we depart and take a charming footpath to The Dardy. From The Dardy\, we follow a minor road and another footpath to Crickhowell’s iconic river bridge. Crossing the river\, we then take Bridge Street and High Street\, bringing us back to our starting point at the car park. \nStarting Point: Crickhowell car park\, OL13/161 SO218184. SUMMARY:Weekend trip: Lake District\, Ennerdale
DESCRIPTION:The Club’s long weekend in wild Ennerdale promises early-summer 5-star walking\, climbing and cameraderie in the remote Western Lake District. One of the most remote of the Lake District valleys\, Ennerdale is largely unspoilt with its striking natural features providing an overwhelming character of wildness and tranquility. It’s many years since the Club last visited Ennerdale. \nEnnerdale inspired Wordsworth’s poem ‘The Brothers’ in 1800 after he and Coleridge visited the valley a year earlier\, but perhaps the area’s largest cultural impact has been on the sport of rock climbing. It was at Pillar Rock in Ennerdale that true rock climbing began. Previously thought unclimbable\, local shepherd John Atkinson scaled The Pillar Stone (as it was known then) in 1824 and kick-started a passion that climbers from all over the world share to this day. \nEnnerdale gives access to many of the western fells (20+ Wainrights\, including Pillar\, Steeple\, Kirkfell\, Haystacks\, High Stile and Red Pike as well as many lesser known fells) and also to several important crags for climbing (Pillar Rock\, Ennerdale Face of High Stile\, Raven Crag\, etc.). \nThis long weekend away (Thursday to Sunday) will be based at Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre in the heart of the dale with easy access to surrounding fells and crags. This is a self-catering independent hostel with five dormitories/40 beds. The LGFC has separate male and female toilet/shower facilities\, two lounges\, a dining room with five tables and benches\, and a kitchen. \nOf particular note outside are opportunities for additional recreation – bird-watching\, river swimming and star-gazing. Swimming is not permitted in Ennerdale Water but the nearby River Liza has many pools for swimming. Ennerdale is a Dark Sky Discovery Site\, offering some of the most spectacular night skies in England (on a clear night!). \n

DESCRIPTION:Join Mick on this delightful and varied route taking in the River Taff\, a fairly steep ascent to the Garth plateau via the North East spur footpath and onto the Trig Point (307m). A a more gentle descent via fields & woodland back to Gwaelod y Garth Inn ( Camera Award Winning Hostelry). Approx 5 miles/8km and 900ft/275m of ascent.\n\nOS Explorer Map 151 / 1:25000\, grid reference 117833.\nwhat3words : extend.wire.blame\n\nStart at 6pm. \nSuggest parking off road at the entrance to Garth Tyres & Autos \, on the right as you enter Gwaelod y Garth Village just after houses on the right. Please Do Not go up the road towards main part of the village (restricted parking). The garage should be closed for business\,  so parking allowed.\n\nPub final food order 8pm\, so we will make sure we complete walk by 7.50pm if people are wanting to eat as well as have a drink afterwards and we can vary route after Garth summit accordingly.\n\nPlease let Mick know if you’re coming by text or WhatsApp (see recent email for his mob number).
