SUMMARY:Chairman's Walk\, Central Beacons East (Waun Rydd)\, 20km/12.5miles\, 730m/2700ft ascent (moderate walk)
DESCRIPTION:Climbing to Waun Rydd and traversing the desolate ‘grey stones’ area of the eastern Central Beacons\, this is a moderate walk of 20km/12.5miles with 830m/2700ft ascent led by our Chairman to kick off the New Year’s programme.\nStart 9:30am at free parking area\, side of TalyBont reservoir. Map OS Explorer OL12\, grid reference SO099196. Head torches are advised. \nFrom the start\, we will find our way through Talybont forest to climb to the summit of Allt Forgan (513m). From there we’ll proceed to the Waun Rydd plateau (700m)\, following its western edge until we reach ‘five paths’ junction.  From five paths we make the first of two traverses of the desolate Gwaun Cerrig Llwydion (‘grey stones’) area of the eastern Central Beacons\, which has few paths across it. A sheltered spot for lunch affords good views into Cwm Oergwm. After lunch we’ll make our second traverse southeast (again\, poor paths) to arrive at the top of Blaen Caerfanell waterfall\, before turning northeast on a good track to reach ‘five paths’ again. Crossing Waun Rydd (769m) again\, this time its eastern side\, we finally descend via Allt Lwyd (654m) to return to our vehicles. This is a moderate walk of 20km/12.5 miles with 830m/2700ft ascent.

SUMMARY:Christmas Pudding Walk (easy walk)
DESCRIPTION:Traditionally\, the location and route for this short and easy walk is kept secret until a few days before the event. This year it will begin at Llanover Village Hall (Map OL13 grid reference SO311082). A short narrow lane opposite a sign to the Village Hall on the A4042 and by the bus stop takes you to the hall. Car parking is at the back.  \nThis undulating walk will take approximately 3 hours and covers fields\, woods\, a sunken lane and a short stretch along the canal. There will be a 15 minute coffee break at the Goose and Cuckoo\, although it may not be open at that time of the morning. And then back to the Village Hall for lunch (bring your own) followed by mulled wine\, tea\, coffee\, mince pies and carols. etc.

The amount of car parking space is very limited\, so please car share if possible. \nWe will head up to Blacksmith’s Anvil and then follow the ridge north-west to Rhos Dirion. The route then follows the escarpment to Twmpa before heading south-east to Capel-y-Ffin. It will be mainly ridge walking but we can take valley options if the weather is very stormy. \n
