DESCRIPTION:A moderate walk of 17.5km/11miles with 610m/2000ft ascent. For the discerning hillwalker\, we explore rarely visited above-ground features in the Ogof Ffynnon Ddu National Nature Reserve. After attaining the rocky summit of Carreg Cadno we will proceed across the moor via Pant Mawr Pot and through the forest to head for the grassy summit of Fan Fraith\, a peak often overlooked in favour of its higher and more well-known neighbour. After Fan Fraith we will return across the moor to find limestone pavements\, and the locked entrance of the OFD cave below; finally descending back to the starting point via a disused quarry tramway with wood sleepers still in situ in places. \nStart 10.00am. DESCRIPTION:At 886m/2907ft\, Pen y Fan is the highest peak in southern Britain and is located in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.  \nThis moderate walk (16km/10miles\, 886m/2907ft ascent) takes one of the lesser-trodden paths to the top – up the long ridge line of Cefn Cwm Llwch\, before ticking off the neighbouring beacons of Cribyn and Fan y Big. The latter is shome to the famous airy slab known as the Diving Board. From there\, the Cefn Cyff ridge makes a good descent to the bottom (one ford to cross at this point) with a further four miles through field and lanes back to the start. \nStart 9.30am. DESCRIPTION:This 11 or so mile circuit of Bal Mawr in the Black Mountains takes the usual path up Bal Mawr but after a short distance heads off left into Llanthony Wood (lots of bluebells) and ascends to the ridge via the pretty little valley below Graig Ddu. We then traverse the ridge to the Anvil where we take the path towards Capel y Ffin\, breaking off that path to follow a wiggly route around the mountain to Cwm Bwchel and back to the car park.  \nStart 10am. DESCRIPTION:Climbing to Waun Rydd and traversing the desolate ‘grey stones’ area of the eastern Central Beacons\, this is a moderate walk of 20km/12.5miles with 830m/2700ft ascent led by our Chairman to kick off the New Year’s programme.\nStart 9:30am at free parking area\, side of TalyBont reservoir. Map OS Explorer OL12\, grid reference SO099196. Head torches are advised. \nFrom the start\, we will find our way through Talybont forest to climb to the summit of Allt Forgan (513m). From there we’ll proceed to the Waun Rydd plateau (700m)\, following its western edge until we reach ‘five paths’ junction.  From five paths we make the first of two traverses of the desolate Gwaun Cerrig Llwydion (‘grey stones’) area of the eastern Central Beacons\, which has few paths across it. A sheltered spot for lunch affords good views into Cwm Oergwm. After lunch we’ll make our second traverse southeast (again\, poor paths) to arrive at the top of Blaen Caerfanell waterfall\, before turning northeast on a good track to reach ‘five paths’ again. Crossing Waun Rydd (769m) again\, this time its eastern side\, we finally descend via Allt Lwyd (654m) to return to our vehicles. This is a moderate walk of 20km/12.5 miles with 830m/2700ft ascent.

SUMMARY:Christmas Pudding Walk (easy walk)
DESCRIPTION:Traditionally\, the location and route for this short and easy walk is kept secret until a few days before the event. This year it will begin at Llanover Village Hall (Map OL13 grid reference SO311082). A short narrow lane opposite a sign to the Village Hall on the A4042 and by the bus stop takes you to the hall. Car parking is at the back.  \nThis undulating walk will take approximately 3 hours and covers fields\, woods\, a sunken lane and a short stretch along the canal. There will be a 15 minute coffee break at the Goose and Cuckoo\, although it may not be open at that time of the morning. And then back to the Village Hall for lunch (bring your own) followed by mulled wine\, tea\, coffee\, mince pies and carols. etc.

DESCRIPTION:Capel-y-Ffin\, to Rhos Dirion & Twmpa. 18km/11m with 625m/2060ft ascent \nThis moderate walk will be from Capel-y-Ffin\, starting at 9.30am. The amount of car parking space is very limited\, so please car share if possible. \nWe will head up to Blacksmith’s Anvil and then follow the ridge north-west to Rhos Dirion. The route then follows the escarpment to Twmpa before heading south-east to Capel-y-Ffin. It will be mainly ridge walking but we can take valley options if the weather is very stormy. \n
